In an ancient time, it all began with an attack on a Viking ship full of golden treasures. A bargain was made, and one fine item accepted. Through the work of a Viking Wizard, the creature and its kin came to land to obtain golden treasures for themselves. Since then, the great serpents of the deep live among us, work beside us, hidden by a change that allows them to be one of us; at least while breathing air.

In 1795 a new juvenile joins the changeling ranks,

Eric’s story is a series of Adult Historic Fantasy novels taking place in Post-Revolutionary America and other parts of the old and new world. Mark, a changeling sea serpent who has lived on land for over 500 years, has taken on his second foster from the deep. Little Eric excitedly starts his journey through the sea with Mark but is brought to land instead. On this change of path, he and Mark deal with the trials and tribulations of growing up in the shadow of an anti-land faction who would force all serpents back to the sea, starting with young fosters like Eric.

ERIC OF THE COLD MIDDLE SEA is my debut novel introducing Mark and Eric Mecklenburg. First conceived of in 2017, Mark and Eric’s story has grown from their meeting in 1795, following the hard years of the Quasi-War with France, the trials of the Napoleonic Wars and beyond. This era shaped things like foreign policy, Presidential powers, and our countries struggles gaining respect as an independent nation, and shapes the serpent community which lives quietly within it.

There are 9 stories in this series so far, following their adventures to the year 1820.
